In the second Twenty20 International, South Africa defeated India by 3 wickets, completing India's 11-match winning streak and tying the series 1-1.
India batted first on Sunday at St. George's Park, scoring 124 runs for six wickets. Thanks to a strong 42-run partnership between Gerald Coetzee and Tristan Stubbs, South Africa chased down the small target with one over in excess.
Despite losing six wickets for just 66 runs, South Africa managed to pull off a comeback in the closing moments, with Stubbs and Coetzee remaining composed to help the Proteas regain the series. Interestingly, the two South African players also managed to stump Indian spinner Varun Chakravarthy, who in a global match promised five wickets.
South Africa has only won one of their six T20I games since the last T20 World Cup before to this encounter. Sunday's victory was especially important to them in this regard.
Stubbs missed the target for his lady T20I fifty because the game ended before he could reach the milestone, but he remained undefeated at 47 off 41 balls. On nine balls and 19 runs, Coetzee was not out. No other batsman managed to reach double digits, with openers Rilee Rossouw scoring 13 (off 21 balls) and Reeza Hendricks scoring 24 (off 21 balls).
Prior to this, India fought from the start of their innings, losing three wickets for just 15 runs in the first four overs. Abhishek Sharma (4), captain Suryakumar Yadav (4), and Sanju Samson (0) were all promptly dismissed. At that point, India had lost five wickets for seventy runs. Nevertheless, Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel helped India recover, pushing the total above 100. Tilak Varma made 20 off 20 balls, Hardik remained undefeated at 39 from 45 balls, and Axar scored 27 off 21 balls.
